“The caviar of nuts”: Mount Mayon claims top honours at iTQi awards

Mount Mayon volcanic pili nuts have been honoured at this year’s International Taste & Quality Institute (iTQi) awards in Brussels. The iTQi is regarded as a world leader in certifying the taste of food and drink products.

New-flavour Kyoto Matcha nuts were rated ‘exceptional’, scoring a top three stars, while Ecuadorian Cacao and Himalayan Pink Salt scored two stars and ‘remarkable’ ratings.

As reported, Mount Mayon presented its products at the recent TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore. The nut range is the latest project from travel retail developer David Weil, and his two biochemist partners.

Weil noted the brand’s “incredible success” at the Singapore event, which has prompted discussions with several major travel retail operators.

“We are delighted with our progress and these latest awards are really important to us. The feedback from fans from the USA is that we’re selling the ‘caviar of nuts’ so we can’t complain,” he said.

Weil added that Mount Mayon is planning to revamp its packaging and website to “better reflect the premium standard of the brand”.
